Our Story

25 years of infrastructure.
One focused mission.

We've spent two and a half decades inside the hardest parts of enterprise infrastructure. Laniakea is what that experience looks like when it's fully unleashed for clients who deserve it.

Who We Are

Built by people who've run the infrastructure.

Laniakea was founded on a simple belief: the best cloud consulting comes from people who have actually operated production systems at scale — not from generalists reading vendor documentation.

Our leadership brings 25 years of hands-on infrastructure experience across financial services, healthcare, retail, and enterprise SaaS. We've managed data centers, led cloud transformations at Fortune 500 companies, and built the kind of systems that simply cannot fail. That depth of experience is what we bring to every client engagement.

We launched Laniakea in 2015 to offer something the market was missing: a boutique cloud consulting firm that combines the technical depth of a large enterprise team with the accountability and speed of a focused specialist. No junior staff, no offshore handoffs, no cookie-cutter playbooks.

The name comes from the Laniakea Supercluster — our cosmic neighborhood, spanning 500 million light-years, containing the Milky Way and over 100,000 galaxies. We chose it because great infrastructure, like the cosmos, operates at a scale that makes the impossible routine.

What makes us different.

We've seen how other cloud consultancies operate. Here's what we do differently — and why it matters for your project.

01
Senior-only delivery
Every engagement is staffed by senior engineers with a minimum of 10 years in production infrastructure. There's no project manager between you and the person doing the work. You always know exactly who's on your account and why they're qualified to be there.
02
We leave you stronger
Our goal is never to create dependency. When an engagement ends, your team should understand the systems we built, be able to extend them, and have documentation that doesn't require us to interpret. Clients who grow with us do so by choice, not necessity.
03
Results first, recommendations second
We start every engagement with a free cloud audit — not to sell you services, but because we can't make good recommendations without first understanding your actual environment. The audit findings guide everything. If we don't find opportunities, we'll tell you that too.
04
Plain language, always
Infrastructure decisions affect budgets, timelines, and business outcomes. Your leadership team deserves to understand them — not just your engineers. We translate complex technical realities into clear business terms, so the people making decisions can make them with confidence.

Our principles in practice.

Accountability over optics

We commit to outcomes, not effort. If we say we'll deliver a zero-downtime migration, we plan for it, test it, and execute it. When unexpected issues arise — and they do — we tell you immediately and solve them together.

Speed through preparation

We move fast because we prepare thoroughly. Every engagement starts with deep discovery. That upfront investment means fewer surprises, tighter timelines, and delivery that doesn't drag on for months while your engineering team waits.

Partnership, not vendor-ship

We're not trying to maximize billable hours. We're trying to maximize your outcomes. That means recommending the simpler solution when it's the right one, flagging scope creep honestly, and pushing back when we think a decision is wrong.

25 years in the making.

Early 2000s
Roots in enterprise infrastructure
Our team's story begins in data center operations and enterprise networking — back when "the cloud" meant a whiteboard diagram. We built and operated mission-critical systems for financial institutions and large enterprises, developing the intuition that only comes from being responsible for infrastructure that absolutely cannot go down.
2010s
Cloud transformation era
As AWS, Azure, and GCP matured, we led large-scale cloud migrations and modernization programs for enterprise clients. This decade taught us what cloud transformations get wrong: underestimating complexity, overestimating timelines, and forgetting that people and process matter as much as technology.
2010–2014
Deep specialization
We went deep on DevOps automation, Kubernetes orchestration, database performance engineering, and the emerging intersection of AI and cloud infrastructure. This period shaped our conviction that specialization — not scale — is what creates real client value in cloud consulting.
2015
Laniakea founded
We launched Laniakea with a clear purpose: bring enterprise-grade infrastructure expertise to organizations that deserve it but can't always access it. Named after our local supercluster — a structure so vast it contains 100,000 galaxies — because we believe great infrastructure should make the impossible feel routine.
